Lexis Unveils Enhancements to Lexis + AI, Elevating Research and Drafting Features

On July 22nd 2024, LexisNexis revealed significant enhancements to its generative AI platform Lexis +AI, aimed at augmenting research and drafting functionalities. Key usability improvements include a “stop response” feature that allows users to pause AI responses to refine prompts, the ability to set a default jurisdiction, and a conversation history option for reviewing prior AI interactions. Additionally, the platform now features an “Uploads Grid View”, enabling users to compare answers from multiple documents on a single screen.

The platform’s drafting and research capabilities have been bolstered with the integration of legal news and automated headnotes for each case. Furthermore, Lexis+ AI users can now leverage Shepard’s citation service within uploaded documents to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of arguments. Shepard’s summary functionality simplifies the process of determining case relevance, while the incorporation of Shepard’s Knowledge Graph enhances citation verification and data identification through Lexis+ AI’s retrieval- augmented generation (RAG) technology. This integration promises more authoritative and comprehensive AI-generated responses.

Lexis+ AI now employs an expanded array of large language models, including Anthropic’s Claude 3 hosted on AWS, OpenAI’s GPT-4o on Microsoft Azure, and a fine-tuned open-source model, Mistral 7B, on Lexis-managed AWS servers. Jeff Pfeifer, Chief Product Officer for LexisNexis in Canada, the UK, and the US, emphasized the company’s commitment to exploring and deploying a diverse set of large language models at an unparalleled pace.

The announcement of these updates coincided with LexisNexis’s acquisition of the Belgian contract drafting startup Henchman. This allows the recent launch of Nexis+ AI, a generative AI solution designed to streamline corporate research and business intelligence, and the broad availability of Lexis+ AI in the UK last month.
